SANKOFA VIII

Building Self-Identity and Self-Reliance among People of African Descent

Liberty Hall hosted another successful Sankofa for student teachers

With the focus this year being on student teachers, Sankofa VIII witnessed a bumper crowd at the Jamaica Conference Centre on Thursday February 27, 2014.

Three Hundred students from eight teacher’s colleges and three Universities across the island came out along with eighty of their counterparts from Medgar Evers College, a historical Black College in New York City via video conferencing for Sankofa VIII.  The Symposium was held under the theme, “Building Self-Identity and Self-Reliance Among People of African Descent through the Activities and Enterprises of Marcus Garvey’s Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities UNIA-ACL: Lessons for Teachers in the 21st century.”
