In 2002, through the collaborative efforts of a group of committed and influential individuals who formed the Friends of Liberty Hall, funds were raised locally and internationally to begin the restoration of Liberty Hall. The actualization of the restoration is credited to efforts from Friends of Liberty Hall, Ministry of Entertainment, Youth and Culture, the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, and the Government of Jamaica. After an extensive refurbishing project, Liberty Hall: The Legacy of Marcus Garvey opened on October 20, 2003.
Guided by its mission “to inform the public about the work of Jamaica’s First National Hero and to use his philosophy and Opinions to inspire excite and positively affect the self-identity of the Jamaican people while creating social and economic wealth”, Liberty Hall: The Legacy of Marcus Garvey has risen from the ashes to honour the memory and work of Marcus Garvey. It is now a living monument to Marcus Garvey. Once again, the space provides facilities for education, entertainment and empowerment of all Black people. In addition, it speaks first to the needs of the surrounding communities, then to the rest of the nation, then to Africans in Africa and the Diaspora, and then the rest of the world.
